Common Causes

Step 1:
Diet change or intestinal irritation are common causes of diarrhea in cats. These symptoms usually will pass within a day.

Diseases

Step 1:
Other causes of diarrhea include treatable parasites or bacteria, but it can also be a symptom of something more serious like pancreatitis or liver disease.

When to Go to a Vet

Step 1:
If your cat has been experiencing diarrhea symptoms for more than two days, visit your veterinarian.

Treatment

Step 1:
If your cat has diarrhea, make sure to keep her hydrated. Your veterinarian can give you prescription medication.

Home Remedies

Step 1:
A quarter teaspoon of plain yogurt mixed in with your cat's food is a good way to ease stomach discomfort and help with digestion.

Prevention

Step 1:
Be consistent with food brands (changing flavors is okay). When changing brands, slowly integrate the new food into the old food for at least a week before completely removing the old food.

Kittens

Step 1:
If your kitten has diarrhea, take him to a veterinarian as soon as possible; kittens can die from dehydration quickly.
