    According to the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals, just under three percent of Collies suffer from hip dysplasia. Collies rank at number 142 out of 153 of dog breeds who suffer from the disease.

Age Risk Factor

  • Step 1:
    With older dogs, the risk for developing hip dysplasia increases slightly. Still, just over three percent of dogs suffer.

Other Risk Factors

  • Step 1:
    Heredity may also be a major indicator of risk for hip problems. Poor nutrition could also be a cause.

Prevention

  • Step 1:
    Monitoring Collies' weight and nutritional intake may further reduce the risk for hip problems.
