Can dog food

  • Step 1:
If at all possible you will should try to avoid canned dog food. This is because most dog foods that comes in cans are full of fats and oil (many of which were used to preserve the food). Many of the food looks similar to human food, and dogs should not consume a heavy dose of human food. Not only can this dog food be expensive, but after sustained feedings it can cause havoc on your dog's health as well. The only time you should actually feed your dog canned food is if your vet recommends it.

Age dog food

  • Step 1:
When looking for a specific dog food you will want to purchase a product made specifically for your dog's age group. This is because at different points of your dog's life your friend will need either more calories, more fat, or more protein with fewer calories and lower fat (the same as humans). Do not just purchase a bag of dog chow with no specific age group listed. If you have a young dog, you will want to look for the 0 to 2 age group on the food. For dogs older than 2, you should purchase adult food. For older dogs you should purchase senior food.

Also, try to avoid foo with the word chow on the label. This is because most chow foods have added fats and calories to make the food more appealing to the dog.

Avoid human food

  • Step 1:
Try to avoid giving your pet human food as much as possible. If a small table scrap falls on the floor and your dog grabs it before you can stop them it is no big deal, but your pet should not consume a large percentage of their daily calorie intake from human food. Most food will have a large amount of calories or fat that the dog should not be consuming. In addition, many foods people eat every day are actually toxic and can be poisonous to a' dogs health. This includes grapes and certain nuts.
