Instructions

Things You’ll Need:

  • Pillowcase
  • Organic pillow fill and quilt batting
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Plastic stool
  • String
  • Elmer's glue
  • Scissors
  • Felt
  • Hot glue gun

Make a Pet Pillow

  • Step 1:
Purchase a pillowcase that corresponds to the size of your pet: purchase a medium-sized round throw pillowcase for a kitten, an extra-large body pillow for a mid-size terrier or a decorative throw pillow for a ferret or rat.
  • Step 2:
Fill the pillowcase with organic pillow fill to protect the health of your pet. You'll want to fill the pillow case only 2/3 of the way to allow for your pet's comfort.
  • Step 3:
Use a needle and thread to close the pillowcase and keep the filling contained. You can use a simple slip stitch to secure the two edges (see Resources).
  • Step 4:
Introduce your pet to its new bed. If your pet settles into it, you can make several to match your bedroom and living room decor.

Make a Small Pet Chair

  • Step 1:
Purchase a plastic children's stool as the base for your small pet chair. This will fit puppies and kittens, as well as guinea pigs and ferrets. If you have a full-size cat or a small dog, you can try an adult stool with sturdy legs.
  • Step 2:
Unroll the organic quilt batting and cut it to fit the stool's top. Use Elmer's Glue to affix padding on the top of the stool, and then wrap heavy-weight string around the legs and top of the stool to keep the batting firmly in place. Knot all string ends firmly and in double knots.
  • Step 3:
Trim the felt to fit around the contours of the stool. Use a hot glue gun to affix the felt to the legs of the stool and then to the top of the stool.
  • Step 4:
Check for loose edges and add more hot glue as necessary.
  • Step 5:
Top your pet stool with the pillow made in Section 1.

Tips & Warnings

  • When using a hot glue gun and felt, work in sections. Hot glue dries quickly. If you want to attach the batting more firmly to the stool, purchase a wooden one and nail the batting to the top of the stool at the edges.
