How to Care for a Pug Puppy

Step 1:
Get to know your pug puppy. When you first bring him or her home, you should pay attention to your puppy's likes and dislikes. Get to know its habits. The first step in bonding with your new pug is to get accustomed to its behavior patterns.
Step 2:
Set up a dog cage for your pug puppy. Before he or she is house broken, you should keep it in the cage while you are at work or gone for long periods of time.
Step 3:
Place soft towels and a chew toy in your pug puppy's cage or "corner." Be sure to make the puppy comfortable as its getting used to a new home.
Step 4:
Leave plenty of puppy chow and fresh water out for your pug. Your puppy may require special, veterinarian-approved food before it grows up. Speak to your vet and find out what to feed the puppy.
Step 5:
Monitor your pug puppy's activity level. Pugs love to play and should be able to run around. However, they can overexert themselves quickly and may have trouble breathing. Know when to rest your pug and give it plenty of water.
Step 6:
Introduce your pug puppy to another household dog or cat. These puppies get along excellently with other animals, so the process should be very simple.
Step 7:
Place out puppy training pads for your pug to use. Let your pug puppy out when he or she begs at the door.

Tips & Warnings

Always clean up after your pug puppy. If he or she uses the bathroom in its cage, be sure to clean up promptly.
Never leave a puppy for long periods of time alone. When it's a puppy, it needs plenty of attention and stimulation.
