How to Get Rid of Fleas Off a New Born Puppy

By Alicia Bodine

Fleas and dogs seem to go hand in hand. At some point in your dog's life, it is bound to become infested with fleas. When this happens, you can get some medication from your vet that will kill the fleas and keep the fleas away. Unfortunately, this method is not allowed on newborn puppies and can be quite dangerous for them. If your newborn puppy has fleas, create a safe homemade flea remedy.

Step 1

Drip 5 drops of lavender oil, eucalyptus oil and cedar wood oil in an empty spray bottle. Fill the spray bottle up the rest of the way with warm water. Replace the cap and shake up the mixture.

Step 2

Spray the homemade flea spray on your newborn puppy, being careful not to get any of it in his eyes. The spray will repel the fleas as they don't like the scents of the essential oils. Spray the mixture on the puppy once every four hours.

Step 3

Fill a bowl with warm dish soap. Fleas can't survive in soapy water and will drown within 5 minutes.

Step 4

Plug a night light close to the ground and remove its outside cover so that the bulb is showing. Fleas are attracted to light and will jump toward the night light.

Step 5

Place the bowl of dish water underneath the night light. Now, when the fleas jump toward the light, they will land in the soapy water and die.
