How to Litter Train a Pomapoo

Things You’ll Need:

Pomapoo
Large dog crate
Large litter box
Scoopable litter
Newspaper
Doggie toys
Doggie bedding
Doggie treats
Leash
Collar

Step 1:
Put a large dog crate in your family room or kitchen. It needs to be large enough to hold a litter box, a small doggie bed and doggie toys like rawhide bones. Put newspapers down inside the cage before putting the litter pan and doggie bed in the cage. Put about 1-inch of scoopable litter into the litter box. Also, put newspaper under the cage sticking out a few inches on all sides to catch any litter that spills out.
Step 2:
Attach a light leash to your Pomapoo and to your belt loop so that your puppy is always with you whether you are carrying it or setting it beside you. Whenever you cannot have your Pomapoo at your side or in your arms, put it in the crate with the litter box and toys.
Step 3:
Set your Pomapoo into the crate about once every two hours for 10 to 15 minutes to allow the dog to use the litter box. Unfortunately, until your Pomapoo is litter trained, the dog will need to sleep in the crate at night to avoid accidents. Whenever you leave the house and cannot take your puppy with you, put it in the crate.
Step 4:
Praise your puppy when he finishes using the litter box. Don't interrupt or you may frighten the puppy from continuing. You do not need to leave your Pomapoo in the crate for the full 15 minutes if he goes potty immediately. Use verbal praise, pats and rubs. Hold your puppy if he likes to be held and continue to praise the pup.
Step 5:
Clean the litter box out often. Your puppy won't want to use a dirty litter box and you do not want to wash the puppy's feet every time he goes potty.

Tips & Warnings

Bulky dog litter is difficult to scoop out and sticks so you may want to use scoopable cat litter.
Puppies are not as easy to litter train as kittens. It may take a couple of months of consistent training for complete success.
Yelling at your puppy may confuse and scare it, delaying potty training. Use praise and rewards instead.
