How to Make a Flea Trap

By Alicia Bodine

Fleas are annoying, small creatures that commonly infest our cats and dogs. They can easily multiply and take over our homes. They not only bite our animals, but they bite us. They leave little red bumps that itch like crazy. Once you see some fleas in your home, you must take action to get rid of them. One thing you can do right away is make your own flea trap. You will most likely already have the items in your home, so you can construct one right away.

Step 1

Fill a bowl half of the way full with warm water and a teaspoon of dish soap. Any dish soap will do. Fleas cannot jump once they have been covered in soapy water and will drown.

Step 2

Take a night light and remove any outward covers so that only the light is showing. You will then need to plug the night light in to an outlet that is close to the floor.

Step 3

Place your bowl of warm soapy water underneath the night light. The fleas will be attracted to the light and will jump toward it. When they land, they will land in the soapy water. They won't be able to get out and will die.

Step 4

Leave the bowl under the light overnight. In the morning you will want to empty the bowl of dead fleas and make a fresh batch of soapy water. Then place it back under the light.

Step 5

Continue doing this until your bowl is flea free when you wake up in the morning.

I actually found this non-expensive flea trap - works really well - and doesn't have any chemicals or anything. Cleared every room I put it in. I don't have the link, but its called - myfleatrap. Has been tested by universities and stuff. Should try it out.

This works great. Traps $15, night lights $1.50 I hang an extension off the back of a chair over a white plate. That way I can put it anywhere. I made a deflector dish to radiate the heat down onto the plate and got immediate results. THANKS
