How to Make Your Dog More Active and Strong

  • Step 1:
Walking your dog regularly kills two birds with one stone: You're both getting exercise. Walking your dog is also a great way to bond with her. If you are unsure of how long a walk your dog needs, check with your veterinarian. Always walk your dog on a leash, to avoid the risk of losing her.
  • Step 2:
Throw a Frisbee or ball with your dog. This is a great way to get him moving; a dog can't resist going after what you throw. Make sure you have a reward or treat waiting when he brings it back to you.
  • Step 3:
Feed your dog a balanced diet. No table scraps! Follow the weight guidelines listed on the can of dog food you are purchasing. An overweight or underweight dog is unlikely to be an active dog.
  • Step 4:
Take your dog to the veterinarian regularly. Regular checkups of a dog may seem unimportant, but they are a great resource for finding problems you may otherwise not have noticed. After all, your dog can't tell you when something is wrong.
  • Step 5:
Provide your pet with dog-appropriate toys. Dogs are great at entertaining themselves. and if you don't want your shoe tossed around the room, you need to have a toy handy. Toys will also give her an incentive to play.

Tips & Warnings

  • Any problems or concerns about your dog's health should always be discussed with your vet.
  • Never force a sick dog to exercise. Get him checked.
