How to Potty Train a 3 Week Old Kitten

Things You’ll Need:

Litter box with short edges
Litter
Litter scoop

Step 1:
Provide a litter box for your kitten. Ensure the sides of the litter box are short enough that he can easily get inside when he needs access.
Step 2:
Place the litter box in a location that is not noisy or difficult for the kitten to access. Ensure the kitten doesn't have to go past children, other pets or any other distractions to get to the box.
Step 3:
Place the kitten in the litter box to ensure she knows where it is located.
Step 4:
Holding his front paws gently, show the kitten how to dig in the litter.
Step 5:
Place the kitten in her litter box several times throughout the day--first thing in the morning, after meals, after she plays and when she wakes from a nap. Once you've put her in the box, leave her alone. Cats will often not use the box unless they have privacy.
Step 6:
Scoop the litter box at least a couple of times a day. Your kitten is more likely to use the box if it is clean.
Step 7:
Confine the kitten to the one room where the litter box is located if she has several accidents. It may be that he doesn't yet have the bladder and bowel control to hold himself until he can get to the box.

Tips & Warnings

Your kitten may have a few accidents. After all, she is a baby. Do not punish her in any way. Clean up the accident with a cleaner that is designed to erase the odor. This will prevent the cat from continuing to urinate or defecate in this area. Start the training process again.
