Instructions

Things You’ll Need:

  • Warm water (not too hot or cold)
  • Mild dog shampoo
  • Sink with spray attachment
  • Washcloth
  • Step 1:
Prepare. Brush your Shih Tzu thoroughly to remove any tangles. Remove the dog's collar. Turn on the water in the sink and adjust to a lukewarm temperature.
  • Step 2:
Place your Shih Tzu in the sink and wet thoroughly using the spray attachment or, alternatively, a large plastic cup.
  • Step 3:
Apply the dog shampoo and massage into your Shih Tzu's coat. Make sure and reach all areas including the belly, paws and backside.
  • Step 4:
Rinse the dog completely. This may take several minutes, depending on the amount of fur your Shih Tzu has and how much shampoo you used.
  • Step 5:
Wash the head starting with the ears. Use a small amount of shampoo on a washcloth and lather up face and ears. Remove any crusty bits from the ears and around the eyes.
  • Step 6:
Rinse off the head but avoid soaking the ears as this can lead to infection if not dried properly.
  • Step 7:
Towel dry and then blow dry your Shih Tzu. Re-brush when completely dry.
  • Step 8:
Give your Shih Tzu a treat for being such a good dog.
