Rather than fur, Maltese have hair. It is always white, straight and lacks an undercoat. Maltese do not shed. Regarding their personality, Maltese are very affectionate and social, and need constant attention.

Warning

Maltese are prone to sunburn where their hair parts. If they are not brushed daily, their hair can become knotted and matted. Since they are pure white, it is imperative that they be washed or dry shampooed often.

There is only one type of Maltese. The Maltese is always a toy breed. Teacup refers to the size of the dog, not a difference in breed.

Considerations
