Instructions

Significance

  • Step 1:
Take charge early. If you don't let your dachshund know who is boss, he will take the job.

Features

  • Step 1:
Dachshunds don't have much fear; protect them with firm, loving training.

Time Frame

  • Step 1:
Housebreaking will be a challenge for a puppy or an adult dachshund that has not been living in a home. Plan to spend at least two or three weeks on intense training.

Effects

  • Step 1:
Dachshunds need exercise. Take him on walks, but keep leash use fun. He will resist initially, but he will eventually grow to love going on walks.

Considerations

  • Step 1:
Puppies 8 to 12 weeks old eat four times daily. At 3 to 6 months, go to three meals. From 6 months to 1 year, feed a dachshund twice daily. At one year, your dog can eat one bigger meal or split it into two smaller meals.

Expert Insight

  • Step 1:
Crate training is great for young dachshunds that aren't housebroken yet and older dogs that may have separation anxiety.
