Instructions

  • Step 1:
Make your home a safe place for your puppy. Store any substances that could potentially hurt a dog if ingested. In addition, when you're not at home to keep an eye on the puppy, you may want to keep him in a crate.
  • Step 2:
Provide the puppy with everything he needs to thrive. Keep your new pet well fed with water accessible at all times. Take your puppy to routine appointments at the vet and bathe him regularly.
  • Step 3:
Talk to your children about how to handle the puppy. Little children have a tendency to handle small dogs roughly. If the child is old enough to understand, encourage her to be gentle with the puppy.
  • Step 4:
Keep your temper in check. Puppies tend to turn your home into a disaster area. Never harm your puppy as a way to train him to behave.
  • Step 5:
Remove the puppy from the home if you have other dogs that are aggressive towards the puppy. You may want to consider finding a new home for the animal.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember to consistently check for signs of illness in your puppy. You don't want your puppy to suffer from an undiagnosed problem.
  • If you don't know if you're treating your puppy properly, speak to your vet or contact the humane society.
