How to Care for a Dog After Neutering

By ah4612

Instructions

  • Step 1:
Follow the instructions of the vet. Most vets will give you instructions about how to care for your dog after it has been neutered. It is important that you follow these instructions to keep your dog from developing problems.
  • Step 2:
Limit physical activity. After you have your dog neutered it is important that you limit its physical activity in order to prevent the stitches from coming out. This is especially true for small dogs. Running, jumping and going up or down stairs can rip the stitches out and make the healing process much slower.
  • Step 3:
Pay extra attention to your dog. It is important after you have your dog neutered to take the time to give it extra attention. Getting neutered can be very traumatic for some dogs, thus it is important for you to take a little more time than usual to provide reassurance.
  • Step 4:
Use collars to keep your dog away from the stitches. Some dogs want to lick or bite at their stitches which may require you to put a special collar on them that prevents them from doing this. While this can be a major pain for both you and your dog, it will help them to heal much faster since they will leave it alone.
