Instructions

Things You’ll Need:

  • Enclosure
  • Bird food
  • Substrate
  • Bird toys
  • Cement perch
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Step 1:
Purchase an appropriately sized cage for your pet. The minimum size cage should be 42 inches by 30 inches and 60 inches tall. The bars should be about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch apart. The enclosure should also provide for 3 food and water cups.
  • Step 2:
Cover the bottom of the cage with an easily cleaned substrate like corn cob.
  • Step 3:
Clean the cage by changing the substrate, food and water daily. Disinfect the cage, perches and cups on a weekly basis.
  • Step 4:
Avoid drastic temperature changes from drafts and direct sunlight on your mollucan cockatoo’s cage.
  • Step 5:
Feed the mollucan a diet of fortified seed, fresh fruit, veggies and commercial pellets.
  • Step 6:
Keep your bird healthy with regular veterinary visits. If your bird shows any signs of illness visit your vet immediately.
  • Step 7:
Place plenty of wooden toys in your pets cage as the cockatoo will spend a lot of time chewing on them. Also provide cement perches for nail filing.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the third food and water cup for treats.
  • Disinfection can be done using a 1 to 20 ratio of household bleach.
  • Exercise extreme caution when using bleach to clean your cage. Its fumes are toxic to you and can easily kill your bird as well.
  • Do not feed your cockatoo avocado, chocolate, alcohol and caffeine as they are toxic to your bird.
