How to Convince Your Man to Get a Cat

Instructions

  • Step 1:
Take him to a pet store or animal shelter where he can see and hold the kittens. He may discover one that melts his heart.
  • Step 2:
Find a cat that suits his personality if he considers them boring or aloof. Even a dog lover can connect with a playful cat that will trail after him obediently and even learn to play "fetch." If you want a purebred, talk to breeders or buy a guidebook that discusses each cat's typical qualities.
  • Step 3:
Explain the potential health benefits. Studies have shown that regular interaction with pets can combat loneliness and depression, have a positive effect on blood pressure and even reduce stress.
  • Step 4:
Offer to share the cat care responsibilities and costs, even if you don't live with your man. Better yet, buy him a self-cleaning liter box and a time-release food and water dish to make the easy-to-care-for pet even less of a burden.
  • Step 5:
Guarantee him that you'll cat sit if he travels frequently on business.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never surprise your man with a cat or force him to get one.
