Things You’ll Need:

  • Frisbee
  • Plastic grocery bags
  • Ball
  • Leash
  • Step 1:
Buy a leash for your pet fox that is comfortable for you to hold. Each person will have a different opinion on leashes, so try a few types. You will want one that is long enough to walk easily, yet not be so long that your fox runs too far ahead of you. Control is the key factor in choosing a leash--you are the person who wants the control.
  • Step 2:
Go for a daily walk with your pet fox. Set aside a certain amount of time, such as 20 minutes a day, that you want to walk. Your pet will develop good leash habits from the regularity of the activity and you will both benefit from the daily exercise. Make sure you bring some grocery bags along to clean up in case your fox needs a bathroom break.
  • Step 3:
Grab a ball and play fetch with your pet fox. Have your kids join in and make it a different kind of game for them. Count how many times the fox will bring the ball back before he gets bored with the game.
  • Step 4:
Teach your pet fox to catch a frisbee when you throw it in the air. This will cause your fox to jump, which is good exercise for her. It may take a while for your fox to catch on to the game.
  • Step 5:
Read a book on dog tricks and activities, such as "101 Dog Tricks: Step by Step Activities to Engage, Challenge, and Bond with Your Dog" (see Resources below). A guide like this will give you some more ideas on how to provide your pet fox with the exercise he needs.

Tips & Warnings

  • Foxes who have lived indoors with families since babyhood are usually as gentle as dogs. But the instinct to protect themselves in a threatening situation still exists. If you have small children who play with your pet fox, be sure to supervise them at all times.
