How to Find a Bird for Breeding

Step 1:
Read bird magazines. Bird magazines provide listings of bird shows across the country organized by state. This can help you find a show in your area where you can look for a bird for breeding.
Step 2:
Attend a bird show. Bird shows can be great for choosing a bird because the breeders all stay near their cages. Many bird breeders actually go to bird shows for the sole purpose of offering their birds for breeding.
Step 3:
Look for a bird in magnificent condition. Make sure the birds you're considering for breeding have no feathers missing, are behaving properly and in general appear to be well taken care of.
Step 4:
Read the classified sections of bird magazines and other pet publications. Breeders often advertise here. You'll be able to find avian directories in these publications that will allow you to narrow down your search for the right bird for breeding.
Step 5:
Ask some bird buddies. Fellow birders may know which breeders are good and which are bad in your area. Finding a local breeder is beneficial for many reasons, not the least of which is that you have a local person to ask questions of during and after the pregnancy.
