How to Groom a Clumber Spaniel

Things You’ll Need:

#10 blade
Scissors
Blending shears
Pin brush
Slicker brush

Step 1:
Neaten the anus area with scissors or a #10 blade. Be very careful not to cut the dog's skin.
Step 2:
Trim stray hair from the feet. If you put your dog in a show, you can trim the leg hair up to the hocks.
Step 3:
Clean up tail feathering.
Step 4:
Straighten up the coat with blending shears if there are stray hairs. The coat should lay flat on the body.
Step 5:
Brush your Clumber Spaniel's coat with a slicker or pin brush, depending on your preference.

Tips & Warnings

Don't shave the throat area if you to put the dog in show.
Clumber Spaniels generally weight between 55 and 85 lbs.
Keep chew toys available at all times.
These dogs may suffer from panosteitis (also called juvenile lameness) and hip dysplasia. Cataracts, dry eyes and entropion are other serious afflictions this breed experiences. They are also prone to skin and flea allergies. They also commonly drool, wheeze and snore.
Clumber Spaniels often swallow foreign objects, so don't leave anything lying around which the dog could easily eat.
Don't overfeed them--Clumber Spaniels are prone to gaining weight quickly.
Don't overfluff the coat when drying after a bath.
