How to Groom a Welsh Terrier

Things You’ll Need:

Slicker brush
Pin brush
Metal comb

Step 1:
Pluck the coat at least two or three times per year. Pull the hair out by hand. Don't pull too hard or hurt the dog. The dead hair should come out easily in clumps.
Step 2:
Groom the black and tan coat with slicker brushes, pin brushes and metal combs several times per week. They shed very little hair, if any.
Step 3:
Bathe when necessary but not too often. When drying, don't try to add volume to the coat, but let it fall back naturally to the body.

Tips & Warnings

Hand strip show dogs. This is a very involved process which requires training and should only be done by a professional. Do not under any circumstances attempt it yourself unless you've been properly trained.
These dogs have a life expectancy of 10 to 12 years.
Hair on the feet, belly and face should be long and you shouldn't trim it too short. Also, leave the hair on the eyebrows and top of the muzzle alone. These are unique parts of the Welsh Terrier's look.
This breed was created in Wales to hunt for badgers, otter, and fox. They can hunt alone or in packs with hounds. They have many talents, including: hunting, tracking, watchdogging, agility and performing tricks.
Some Welsh Terriers are predisposed to skin and eye problems.
