  • Crate or carrier

How to Have a Happier Pet

  • Step 1:
Make sure your pet wears an identification tag on its collar at all times. Put your name, address and telephone number on the tag.
  • Step 2:
If you have a dog, enroll it in behavioral training classes. This will help prevent behavioral problems like biting. See if your local pet store offers classes.
  • Step 3:
Take your pet to the veterinarian at least once a year to make sure it doesn’t have any health problems.
  • Step 4:
Prepare for natural disasters like hurricanes, tornados, fires and floods. Keep an emergency carrier somewhere in your house with an extra dish, bottled water, food and a blanket.
  • Step 5:
Create a will so that your pet will be taken care of in case anything happens to you. Or at the very least, ask family members or friends if they would take care of your pet.
  • Step 6:
Spay or neuter your pet. Sometimes this helps decrease your pet’s destructive behavior, and it also prevents it from running away to find a mate.
  • Step 7:
Set time aside to spend quality time with your pet. Be interactive with it by cuddling and playing with their toys.
