How to Hide Medicine in Pet Food

By Holly Mccoy

Instructions

Things You’ll Need:

  • Various dog-friendly food
  • Canine medicine
  • Step 1:
Give your pet his medicine when he is hungry, typically early in the morning. They will be less likely to turn food down, even something with medicine in it.
  • Step 2:
Pick a food that is strong-flavored, and will mask the taste of the medicine. Hot dogs, bologna, lunch meat or any type of meat and chicken will do well.
  • Step 3:
You may need to smash the pills up and mix it into wet food to get your pet to take it. Try buying a gourmet food, one your pet will consider a treat, and grind the pill up into it. Mix it well, and there should be no funny taste.
  • Step 4:
Make sure the medicine is directly in the middle of the piece of food. You do not want it falling out of your pet's mouth as they are trying to eat it.
  • Step 5:
If your pet has a favorite pet treat, try hiding the medicine within it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure to give your pet the correct dosage of medicine.
  • Be sure your pet takes all the medicine--try again if he spits it out.
