How to Identify a Tonkinese Cat

By eHow Pets Editor

Instructions

  • Step 1:
Feel the coat of the cat. It should be short and soft with a shiny coat. The coloration is generally darker, like the Burmese cats, but maintains the points of the Siamese cats.
  • Step 2:
Look at the body of the cat. It should be a medium sized cat with long legs. The body will be well muscled and lean. The hind legs are longer than the front legs, to raise the hind above the shoulders.
  • Step 3:
Consider the shape of the head. The shape of the Tonkinese is somewhat triangular with the points a little rounded. The ears are large with rounded tips and the nose has a slight stop to it.
  • Step 4:
Peer into the Tonkinese's eyes. They will be a shade of blue-green. They have an almond shape to them. They are wide set upon the face.
  • Step 5:
Feel the tail. It will be long and tapering to a fine point.

Tips & Warnings

  • These cats are curious and active. They enjoy company. The owner should be ready to give all the love and attention that they demand. They can be very vocal in their demands and will get right into your face about it.
  • They like space to exercise in and especially enjoy being able to roam a garden.
