How to Keep Kids From Crossing Through Your Yard

Step 1:
Figure out who is actually doing the crossing. If you do not know who the culprits are that keep trampling your fresh grass seeds, then you will have a really difficult time stopping them. Keep an alert eye out for anyone crossing through your yard. Kids generally will not hide the fact that they are doing so. If you have to, set up an outdoor camera to keep watch on your yard while you are gone.
Step 2:
Request that they no longer cross your yard. This seems obvious, but many times people will not even do this. Take the time to politely ask the kids to not cross over your yard any longer. Be specific about your request, and try to have a witness with you to back up your request.
Step 3:
Ask for the kid's names when they cross your yard. When you stop a kid from trampling across your yard, ask their name. Also ask where they live. You may or may not get a truthful answer, but it will help the kid to realize that you are serious. If you have a repeat offender, go to the parents.
Step 4:
Consider a privacy fence. While they are expensive, privacy fences are a wonderful way to keep kids from crossing through your yard. This option is a last resort unless the idea of a privacy fence appeals to you.
Step 5:
Get a dog. Most kids will avoid yards where there is a dog. This particular step can also give you hours of great joy since a dog is a great pet.
Step 6:
Call the authorities if you tried all of the above with no results. The last thing you want to do is involve the police in something so small as a kid crossing your yard. If the kid is causing you damages, it is a final step to take.

Tips & Warnings

Request the kid to stay off your grass nicely the first time.
Ask for names, and where the child lives so that you can contact parents.
Do not contact the police unless it is a last resort.
