How to Keep Pets Safe During a Power Outage

Water
Pet food
Blankets

Step 1:
Make sure that the pets have water. Since you will probably be worrying about finding water to drink or bathe with for yourself, there is a chance that you may forget about providing your pets with water. It is a good idea to have water bottles on hand at all times, so that you can just pour them into their bowls. In the summer, be sure to give pets more water than you normally would when the power goes out. Without the fans or air conditioning, some pets may become overheated.
Step 2:
Do not forget to feed the pets. Although you are probably in the routine of feeding at the same time every day, things may become very hectic for you when the power goes out. Most pets will probably remind you to feed them if you should happen to forget, but it is not a good idea to let it get to this point. Providing your pets with food is a main key to keeping them safe during a power outage.
Step 3:
Ensure that pets stay warm if the power outage occurs during a cold time of the year. Provide them with a bed of blankets to keep warm. If you own any clothes for your cat or dog that they will allow you to put on them, a power outage that occurs during a cold time may be the best time for you to use them.

Tips & Warnings

Don’t forget about smaller pets, such as guinea pigs and hamsters or reptiles.
Only allow pets outside during cold months when the power is out to do their business.
Pay attention to your pet's behavior. If they act strange, realize that something may be wrong.
