Instructions

Things You’ll Need:

  • A separate room for the pet dog
  • A designated pet walker for the night
  • Cooperative guests
  • A new pet toy
  • A leash
  • A willing guest or an agreeable child
  • A schedule
  • A small gift or reward for the pet sitter
  • Holiday banners
  • Tabletop decorations
  • Food that fits your dog's regular diet
  • Cooperative guests
  • A watchful pair of eyes

Minimize Interaction

  • Step 1:
Keep your pet dog in his own room for most of the party.
  • Step 2:
Make sure the room is safe and secure for the pet dog.
  • Step 3:
Give the pet dog a new toy, which will keep her amused.
  • Step 4:
Be sure to provide ample food and water and toys for the pet for the duration of the party.

Assign a Pet Sitting Role

  • Step 1:
Assign one or more family members with the task of checking on the dog.
  • Step 2:
The pet sitter should check on the pet and take the pet for a walk.
  • Step 3:
The pet sitter should also take the pet through the house to let him meet the guests before returning the pet to his room.

Keep Decorations to a Minimum

  • Step 1:
Look at the party room from the dog's perspective. Remove any holiday decorations that are within reach and could pose a choking hazard.
  • Step 2:
Tuck in any cords for holiday lights to minimize the appeal for the dog to chew on the cords.
  • Step 3:
Keep live holiday plants out of reach of the curious pet.

Watch What the Pet Dog Eats

  • Step 1:
Ask guests not to feed the pet dog holiday food.
  • Step 2:
Do not allow the dog to indulge or overeat just because it is a holiday party.
  • Step 3:
Asks guests not to leave any medication around the house.

Tips & Warnings

  • Guests may have pet allergies and they will be more comfortable without a pet in the room.
  • Do not let guests store their belongings in the same room as the pet.
  • Do not let pets greet every guest at the door, since the guests may be worried about letting the pet escape.
  • Keep babies and even toddlers away from pets, since the damage could be two-fold.
