Instructions

Things You’ll Need:

  • Saltwater fish
  • Tank
  • Magnetic algae scraper
  • Testing kit
  • Freshwater source
  • Fish food (flakes and brine shrimp)
  • Step 1:
Change the water in your tank monthly. Freshwater should be used, not saltwater. Make sure that the water replaced is around the same temperature as the water remaining in the tank. Replace about the same amount that has evaporated.
  • Step 2:
Keep a close eye on the PH, nitrates, phosphates, and ammonium in your tank. This can be easily regulated with a saltwater testing kit. Kits can usually be purchased from your local pet store.
  • Step 3:
Scrape algae from the sides of your tank regularly. A magnetic algae scrubber attached to the glass will make this chore much easier.
  • Step 4:
Alternate your food regularly. Keep a healthy variety of flakes and brine shrimp on hand. Switching between flakes and a live source will enhance the overall health of your tank.
  • Step 5:
Check your equipment daily. The lives of many fish could be saved if their owner's checked on their filter, temperature gauge, and skimmers regularly! For the optimal health of your fish, make sure every mechanism in your tank is running smoothly.
  • Step 6:
Clean your bulbs! Decreased light can affect the health of your tank, as well as diminish it's beauty! Beautiful, brightly colored fish deserve the right lighting!

Tips & Warnings

  • Watch your fish daily to learn their behaviors and routines. Careful observation can help determine if there is a maintenance issue with your tank.
  • Beware of foul odors coming from your tank. This is a sure sign that something is wrong!
