How to Litter Train a Problem Cat

Instructions

Things You’ll Need:

Litter box
Unscented cat litter
Newspaper
Potting soil
Cat food and water
A room for isolation

Step 1:
Place bowl of food and water in isolated room.
Step 2:
Set up litter box by cleaning it thoroughly with soap and water. Dry. Cover bottom of box with newspaper. Pour 8 cups of litter on top of paper. Sprinkle a handful of potting soil on top of litter.
Step 3:
Place cat in room and isolate for 48 hours.
Step 4:
Check on cat every 8 hours. Fill food and water bowls as necessary.
Step 5:
Release cat and monitor litter boxes around the house.

Tips & Warnings

The cat will make a lot of noise at first. Ignore this until the next 8 hour checkup time.
Play with the cat and pet it during check up period.
Do not change the litter during the 48 hour period.
Prepare all litter boxes in the house in the exact same manner using the same brand of litter and soil.
Fully clean and change litter boxes every other day.
Problem urination can also be a sign of a health issue. Have your cat checked at a vet to rule out this possibility.
