Instructions

  • Step 1:
Care for your puppy's basic needs. Puppies need food, water and affection from their humans. Loving your puppy starts with providing these basic resources to him so that he can grow up healthy. Likewise, make sure that your puppy gets vet care for any problems that may be present or develop.
  • Step 2:
Use positive reinforcement to train your puppy. Hitting, kicking or rubbing your puppy's nose in accidents does not show your puppy love. Instead, use treats, affection and play time to train your puppy. With consistency and practice, you'll end up with a puppy who is well trained and who loves being with you.
  • Step 3:
Exercise your puppy regularly. You'll want to take care with where you take a young puppy so that she doesn't come down with an illness like parvo. However, even in your own home, there's plenty of play time activities that you can do to show your love. Try a game of fetch, tug or hide and seek.
  • Step 4:
Spend quality time with your puppy. Just like with humans, you can show your love by spending time focused on your puppy. Take time each day to play with, pet or quietly sit with your puppy.
  • Step 5:
Maintain a leadership role with your puppy. Although you may be tempted to give in to those big puppy eyes, setting boundaries and sticking to them creates puppy who more relaxed about her place in life. You can love your puppy and maintain your leadership position.
  • Step 6:
Stimulate your puppy's mind with toys, play, training and socialization. While you need to keep your puppy safe, you must introduce him to a wide range of situations and people. In the process, you'll be showing your love for your puppy by spending time with him and making life fun for both of you.
