How to Make Crafts With Pinecones

Things You’ll Need:

  • Pinecone
  • Green and white paint
  • Small craft odds and ends
  • Pinecone
  • Peanut butter
  • Butter knife
  • Bird seed
  • Yarn
  • Small ball of clay
  • Construction Paper
  • Pinecone
  • 2 wiggly eyes
  • Acorn

Make a Miniature Christmas Tree

  • Step 1:
    Paint a pinecone green.
  • Step 2:
    Set pine cone on its end so that it looks like a tree.
  • Step 3:
    Paint the edges of the pinecone white to resemble snow.
  • Step 4:
    Decorate the tree with small beads, rickrack, sequins, ribbons and buttons to resemble ornaments.

Attract Birds with a Pinecone Birdfeeder

  • Step 1:
    Choose a pinecone that has opened fully.
  • Step 2:
    Use a knife to slather the pinecone with peanut butter.
  • Step 3:
    Roll the pinecone in birdseed until the cone is entirely covered.
  • Step 4:
    Tie yarn around the top of the pinecone.
  • Step 5:
    Hang the cone in the backyard for the birds to enjoy.

Create a Turkey.

  • Step 1:
    Press a ball of clay into the side of a pinecone to create a flat base.
  • Step 2:
    Cut feathers out of red, orange, brown and yellow construction paper.
  • Step 3:
    Glue the feathers to the larger end of the pinecone, making sure to flare the feathers out to look like a turkey tail.
  • Step 4:
    Glue an acorn to the smaller end of the pinecone for a head.
  • Step 5:
    Glue a wiggly eye on each side of the acorn.
  • Step 6:
    Attach a red construction paper wattle on the front of the acorn where the beak would be.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the pinecone is still tightly shut, it may contain seeds or sap. To avoid a sticky mess, let the pinecones dry in a well-ventilated area. Pinecones can also be dried in the oven for an hour on a setting of 200 degrees.
