How to Opt Out of Vaccines for Your Child

By eHow Health Editor

Instructions

Things You’ll Need:

  • Waiver of immunization
  • Step 1:
Use the Internet to find out which reasons for a vaccine exemption your state accepts. The three that you can choose from are medical, religious and philosophical. Different states allow exemptions for only one, only two or all three objections.
  • Step 2:
Know all aspects of your state’s policies and regulations that pertain to immunizations so that the waiver has the best chance of quick and easy approval. Pay close attention to the language used, and know how it is going to work both for and against you.
  • Step 3:
File the proper paperwork from your state’s Department of State Health Services. Remember that you will probably have to get the Waiver of Immunization notarized. The Department of State Health Services will be able to tell you exactly what you need to do in regard to your state’s policies.
  • Step 4:
Send a letter to your child’s school letting them know of your position about immunizations and to expect further paperwork from you soon. You will also need to file paperwork from the State Health Services with your child’s school, since most schools don’t have these papers.
  • Step 5:
Remember that a healthy child is more likely to not get sick when exposed to germs. Keep your child at her best with good nutrition, vitamins and plenty of exercise.
