Instructions

  • Step 1:
Prepare a special area for your new charge. Make certain that it is not accessible to other animals. Your friend won't appreciate it if he comes back and your dog has made his lizard a chew toy.
  • Step 2:
Understand the type of lizard that you're pet sitting and what they like to eat. While the owner should supply the food, it's always a good idea to know in advance. If the lizard eats live insects, you will need a spot to store the insects. You also should know where to purchase more food if the food supply runs out.
  • Step 3:
Request that your friend supply a checklist. The list should include the time of day that the lizard likes to eat and any type of interactions the lizard might enjoy.
  • Step 4:
Understand the habits of the lizard. For example, find out if she prefers to hide in a dark place or bask in the sun, just in case the pet escapes and you must find it. Also know whether the lizard needs special treatment. For example, bearded dragon lizards frequently need help finding water.
  • Step 5:
Write down the name of the lizard's veterinarian in the event of a problem. Not all vets can treat lizards, so you might not be able to take her to your own vet for treatment.
  • Step 6:
There are three types of lizards. Insectivorous lizards, such as the gecko, feed on insects such. Carnivorous lizards, such as monitor lizards, eat scavengers. Herbivorous lizards, like the green iguana, feed on plant material. Be prepared for what you have to feed each one.
  • Step 7:
Check the amount of handling that the lizard is used to and supply that same amount.
