Instructions

  • Step 1:
Approach the cat from the side. Be careful not to scare the cat as you approach it. Never approach the cat from the front or the back.
  • Step 2:
Place one hand, palm up, under the chest behind the front legs. Use your other hand to gently scratch its head to let it know that you will not harm it.
  • Step 3:
Position other hand, palm up, under the cat's hindquarters to support its weight evenly.
  • Step 4:
Lift up the cat into the crook of your arm or onto your lap gently. Once you have lifted the cat, pat its head again to let it know that you are friendly and mean no harm.

Tips & Warnings

  • Cats don't like being held like a baby on its back. This exposes the cat's stomach, making it feel vulnerable.
  • Pick up your cat frequently. The more frequently you pick him up, the more natural it will become for the cat.
  • Never pick up a cat by its tail or legs. This is dangerous to the cat and the cat could scratch you if it feels pain.
