Prepare Yourself
Step 1:
Evaluate your health. Some chronic health conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure may indicate that you are a poor candidate for ear piercing. Skin infections, inflammation, moles and warts in the area will definitely affect whether or not you should proceed with the piercing.Step 2:
Eat something prior to your appointment. It's a good idea to have a little something on your stomach, even if you don't feel particularly nervous about the procedure.Step 3:
Clean the earlobes and surrounding areas. Make sure the area is free from lotions, shampoo or conditioner residue, perfumes or any visible dirt.Step 4:
Take home an aftercare brochure and purchase the recommended products. Although there are many suggested methods of cleaning a new piercing, the best course of action is to follow what the attendant suggests.
What to Expect at the Appointment
Step 1:
Select an appropriate starter set. It's best to choose something hypoallergenic that you won't mind wearing for at least six weeks.Step 2:
Clean the front and back of the earlobe with alcohol or other cleaning solution. Allow to air dry.Step 3:
Mark the position of the earring with marking pen. Keep in mind that no one's ears are perfectly symmetrical, so be sure to provide input on what position you think would look best.Step 4:
Brace yourself for a quick pinch. The piercing will take place very quickly and should produce very little initial pain, much like a pinch. Try not to allow too much time to pass before piercing the second ear.
