How to Purchase a Pure Breed Rabbit

Step 1:
Attend your county or state fair during the rabbit and small animal competitions.
Step 2:
Visit the rabbit cages and take notes about the breeds you find especially interesting. Note their sizes, colors, ages and coats.
Step 3:
Ask questions of rabbit breeders who are showing their rabbits at the fair. Find out if they sell their animals or simply show them for competition.
Step 4:
Get contact information for the breeders you like and find most helpful.
Step 5:
Research some of the breeds that you found at your local library or on the Internet. This is an important step in helping you choose the breed that's right for your family.
Step 6:
Pay attention to details like care and grooming of the breeds you like. Most rabbits require much more attention than new owners realize.
Step 7:
Get in touch with the breeder you want to purchase from. Make sure they are a member of the American Rabbit Breeders Association or have other certification.

Tips & Warnings

Purchase all your rabbit supplies before bringing your new bunny home. Rabbits need a hutch if they are to live outside or a cage and litter box if they are to be inside pets.
Pure breed rabbits have great personalities and tend to have more distinct character traits than mixed breeds.
Do not purchase a rabbit from a pet store unless you know where they get their stock and can give you proper documentation.
