How to Raise Angora Goats

Step 1:
Select goats for the herd. A herd should consist of at least 2 goats at all times because they are animals that naturally run in groups. If there is only one goat, the humans that care for it can become its herd. Angora goats come in white and natural colors. Select goats with the finest fleece to earn the most profit from shearing.
Step 2:
Provide quality food for the angora goats, because the better nutrition the goats get, the better the quantity and quality of their fleece. A general rule of thumb is 18 percent protein sweet feed, but 20 percent protein for nursing nannies and pregnant females. These goats also need good quality hay. Rotten or moldy hay should never be given to angora goats as it may make them sick or even kill them.
Step 3:
Give shelter to the Angora goats. They will especially need this after shearing as they can freeze to death up to 6 weeks afterwards. A simple shed will be more than adequate. Invest in a kidding barn for breeding goats to keep newborns safe from the elements and predatory animals.
Step 4:
Keep the Angora goats healthy and parasite-free. Get information and guidance from any local goat or sheep veterinarian on vaccinations and parasite medications.
Step 5:
Shear the goats. This is twice-a-year maintenance. They also require regular trimming of their hooves. Their horns should not be docked.
