InstructionsThings You’ll Need:A copy of both of the sire and the dam’s registration numbersThe date your Thoroughbred was foaledYour foal’s color and markingsThe name of the foal’s breeder3 name choices (no two Thoroughbreds can have the same name)The Jockey Clubs web addressA DNA sample from the foalHow to Register a Thoroughbred OnlineStep 1:Before the Thoroughbred foal is even born, the breeder needs to provide the information of the mare’s breeding to the Jockey Club. This report is called a RMB. The breeder, the Jockey Club, and the stallion’s owner will all keep copies of the RMB, which can be electronically filed, in their records. A copy of the RMB must be attached to the foal’s registration papers.Step 2:Within 30 days of the foal’s birth the mare’s owner must submit a live foal/no foal report to the Jockey Club. This report will contain information about the date of the foal’s birth, what state/province the foal was born in, the foal’s sex, and the name and address of the foal’s current owner. If the pregnancy is terminated or the foal is still born a report of no foal should be filed immediately.Step 3:Within a few months of submitting the live foal/no foal report the foal’s owner will receive a genetic typing kit as well as a registration application. A soon as possible the owners should send several stands of the of the foals hair to the lab, to have the foal’s parentage confirmed. While waiting for the results of the genetic test, the owner should fill out the registration paper. The Jockey Club requires that a photo of the head, back view, and each side of the foal accompany the foal’s registration application. Make sure that all of the foal’s markings are clearly visible in the photographs.Step 4:Before submitting the application, make sure that all of the information is correct.
