Instructions

  • Step 1:
Buy used supplies instead of new when possible to save money. Go to thrift stores and garage sales, and check out ads on the newspaper for supplies, such as a pet carrier, grooming supplies or crate. You can also look into some sites such as eBay and Craigslist for hot deals to save some money.
  • Step 2:
Search through sale flyers for sales on pet supplies that you need, and look through the paper to find coupons for food, treats or other supplies such as cat litter or grooming supplies.
  • Step 3:
Purchase pet food, cat litter and animal snacks in bulk. Look for large grocery stores that specialize in selling bulk items such as Sam's Club or PetSmart.
  • Step 4:
Adopt a pet from an animal shelter to save money on pet supplies. They often provide some options to save money on pet supplies or services such as spaying and neutering.
  • Step 5:
Use your veterinarian as a resource. Look for postings in the office of clients looking to get rid of items. Ask your vet if they can recommend any places to find reasonably priced pet items to help you save some money.

Tips & Warnings

  • Sell old pet supplies that you don't use or need anymore such as that dog bed your puppy didn't like or a food dish your pet doesn't use. This way you can make some money to put towards buying pet items that you actually need and will use.
  • Be aware that cheaper is not always better. Some pet food is better quality than others. Better quality food means better health for your pet which can save you money in the long run.
