Instructions

  • Step 1:
Research carefully and thoroughly any breeders before purchasing a rabbit from them. Many organizations are currently working to disband mass-breeding facilities, or "bunny mills." Be sure the standards and conditions are safe and humane.
  • Step 2:
Provide adequate food, space and comfort for breeding rabbits, if you choose to breed the pet rabbits on your own. The well-being of the animals should be just as important (or more) as the profits.
  • Step 3:
Find local pet shops that purchase house rabbits from reputable breeders only. Don't be afraid to voice your concerns about stores and companies that purchase rabbits from mill-breeding facilities.
  • Step 4:
Sell your rabbits to a pet store that works hard to educate customers about proper care for house rabbits.
  • Step 5:
Educate your customers, if you decide to become a private seller of pet rabbits. Many first-time buyers do not know the basics of house rabbit care: litter training, proper housing, gnawing habits and food are just a few things they will need to know about.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure that your rabbits are being sold to responsible individuals. Rabbits are the third most euthanized pet animal in the country, and this is due to uninformed people who purchase rabbits without knowing what to do with them.
  • Never try to sell pet rabbits by referring to them as good "starter pets." House rabbits require the same amount of care as any other household pet.
