Instructions

  • Step 1:
Understand the reasons to sell a pet fox. Foxes are animals that exhibit characteristics associated with wild, exotic animals. A fox has an unpredictable temperament, as foxes are not domesticated animals. Foxes have a strong smell, similar to a skunk. They need a large area to run--and they love to dig (they can ruin your yard or furniture.) Foxes have a high incidence of rabies and legally require vaccination, however there aren't many veterinarians who vaccinate foxes. Lastly, removal from the natural habitat creates sadness and depression in a fox.
  • Step 2:
Know that you need a license to sell a pet fox. It is against the law to sell exotic animals without the proper license. Contact the United States Department of Agriculture through the official website to find out how to start the licensing process.
  • Step 3:
Contact a pet shop that specializes in exotic animals. They might be interested in purchasing your pet fox and know how to provide for the animal.
  • Step 4:
Find an exotic animal breeder or a game farm in your area. A pet fox might be welcomed by these specialists who know how to properly care for a pet fox.
  • Step 5:
Auction the pet fox. Understand that there are laws that protect animals established under the Animal Welfare Act. Rules and regulations concerning animal auctions vary by state. Check the rules in your state to conduct a legal auction.
  • Step 6:
Print an advertisement in the local newspaper. Check that the person who responds to your advertisement is responsible and knows the expense and duties associated with owning a pet fox.

Tips & Warnings

  • Licenses and permits to sell a pet fox legally at auction can be expensive.
  • Don't sell your pet fox to just anyone. Be sure that the person has knowledge on how to properly care for the fox before you sell the pet fox.
