Instructions

  • Step 1:
Let your cat sleep with you every night. Better yet, let him share your
pillow. He may curl himself around your head. If this is too drastic for you, a heated cat bed is also a good way to pamper your cat.
  • Step 2:
A large walk-in closet with no door and shelves of varying height = large cat condo. This is guaranteed to provide your cat with hours of fun and enjoyment. You may wish to put your sweaters in drawers, rather than on the shelves where the cat can get at them.
  • Step 3:
Buy your cat a cat spa. If you do not know what this is, you have much to learn in the art of cat spoiling. (See the Cat Guys website in Resources below.) With a cat spa, your cat can chew on gum stimulators and massage her own back. It has catnip compartments too, but your cat probably will not need that extra incentive to use it.
  • Step 4:
Having chicken or fish or another cat-friendly menu item for dinner? Put a plate down on the floor and feed kitty from the table. Then wonder why he always hovers around when you are eating, even if you don't feed him. On the other hand, if you don't want kitty bothering you at the dinner table but would still like to spoil him with some people food on occasion, put a little bit in his dish before you eat.
  • Step 5:
Like to watch TV? Maybe your cat does, too. Get her a cat-themed video or DVD. The Kitty Show website (see Resources) is one source for videos and DVDs that are made especially for cats, but there are many others. You may want to buy a couple of different ones and rotate them, because cats will get bored with them after awhile.
  • Step 6:
Many cats like to be brushed. This is especially good for cats whose hair mats easily or cats who have arthritis and can't reach everywhere to groom themselves. There are some professional groomers who work with cats, but since cats often don't enjoy car rides the way dogs do, your cat would probably prefer that you brush him yourself. The Ryan's Pet website (see Resources) has special tools that get to the mats in your cat's undercoat, which most regular pet brushes don't do.
  • Step 7:
Finally, and most important, spend time with your cat, just playing with her or petting her. She may not clamor for your attention the way a dog would, but she enjoys your company and misses you while you are gone.
