How to Stop a Dog From Barking at People Outside

Step 1:
Determine what you consider acceptable barking and when you want it to stop. Allow your dog to bark briefly, but not continuously.
Step 2:
Make sure your dog knows you're in charge. When your dog barks, do not allow the behavior to continue or he will think you agree with the behavior. Tell him to stop barking in a calm and assertive voice.
Step 3:
Exercise your dog frequently so that any extra energy is burned off. Generally, walking your dog twice daily for at least 30 minutes each can help.
Step 4:
Reward good barking behavior. When your dog starts to bark, allow it for a second then give a command such as "no barking." Once the dog is silent, give praise or a treat as a reward.
