How to Take a Dog to Work

Things You’ll Need:

Leash
Dog bed
Treats
Food
Water
Toys/chewies
Food and water bowls

Step 1:
Check with your boss or HR department first. Do not bring your dog to work without asking for permission first; there may be policies against bringing animals into your work.
Step 2:
Make sure your dog will walk on a leash and will behave itself around a number of people. Your dog should never be the kind that snaps, bites or growls at strangers.
Step 3:
Train your dog well first. If your dog is large and can't stay in a small purse-like carrier, your dog should respond well to sit, lay and stay commands. They also shouldn't jump up on people, even if it's friendly jumping. In addition, your dog should be completely housebroken.
Step 4:
Be prepared to have to take your dog home half-way through the day if there are problems. Plan on bringing your dog to work on a relatively light work day, such as a Friday.
Step 5:
Provide your dog with his basic needs—a run break, toys, treats, outside time, potty breaks, water and food. In addition, make sure you clean up after your dog whether it's a spot of drool on the ground, crumbs from treats, a water bowl spill or other messes.
Step 6:
Plan on bringing everything your dog will need, from a soft place to rest to food bowls. In addition, bring many healthy treats for the co-workers who want to give your dog something special to munch on.

Tips & Warnings

Never force a co-worker to pet or baby-sit your dog. Not all people like dogs and they should never be forced to be around a dog they're not comfortable with.
