Instructions

Things You’ll Need:

  • Information on a hamster and its needed supplies
  • Step 1:
Talk to your parents. Be persistent in your conversations. Tell your parents why you would like to buy a hamster. Perhaps your friends all have pets and you want one that you can call your own. Print out a picture of the hamster you would like to have and explain to your parents that it is inexpensive and does not cost much to feed or maintain.
  • Step 2:
Accept the responsibility. Hamsters are a living animal and need a good caregiver. For example, hamsters need to eat and they need a clean cage. Convince your parents that you understand this responsibility and are ready to accept it.
  • Step 3:
Use your own money to purchase the hamster, hamster books and other needed supplies. Tell your parents that you will use your own money to continue to buy food or bedding materials needed in the future.
  • Step 4:
Discuss rewards for good performance to talk your parents into allowing a hamster. Tell them that rewards will encourage you to continue to do well in school and at home. Encourage your parents to remove the hamster if you fall short of their expectations.
  • Step 5:
Let your pleading eyes and sobbing tears flow freely if your parents say no. Most parents cannot refuse a crying, upset child. Give them the sad puppy eyes.
  • Step 6:
Smile and give parents a big hug when they say yes. Be grateful happy that you convinced your parents that a hamster would be the ideal pet for you.
