How to Teach Your Pup To Learn His Name

Things You’ll Need:

Your dog's favorite treats

Step 1:
Start in a quiet place. Dogs, especially puppies, get distracted easily. The less noise, the better.
Step 2:
Once your doggy is looking away from you, say his name one time in a clear and friendly manner.
Step 3:
If he looks at you, reward him immediately with a treat and verbal praise. Always speak in a happy, friendly voice. If he doesn't respond, wait 5 seconds and try again.

Tips & Warnings

If your pup is not responding to initial efforts, try changing the pitch of your voice, or add an extra cue immediately after saying the dog's name (like squeaking a toy or blowing a whistle).
Always offer rewards of play or praise or treats once he does look at you.
Practice makes perfect. Every day say your dog's name to draw her attention to other things.
Only say his name once when trying to attract him. Saying his name in rapid succession will only confuse him, and he'll end up ignoring you.
