How to Teach a Rabbit not to Chew Furniture

By eHow Pets Editor

Instructions

  • Step 1:
Discipline your bunny when you catch it chewing on furniture by startling it. Clap your hands loudly, or put some pebbles into a can and shake it vigorously. Speak the rabbit's language: Emit one high, loud, sudden and short screech to get the rabbit's attention.
  • Step 2:
Distract your bunny by giving him more appropriate and interesting things to chew on. Sometimes disciplining your bunny only goes so far, especially if the bunny is left alone to roam for periods of time. Bunnies love toys. such as apples, willows, aspen branches, cotton towels or a basket with hay in it.
  • Step 3:
Give your bunny a playmate; maybe a second rabbit or another animal like a guinea pig. Sometimes rabbits find things to chew on out of boredom, so a friend to play with might be the cure.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't ever hit your bunny for misbehaving.
