Instructions

  • Step 1:
Update your pet's shots and immunizations. Your vet should give you updated health papers also. Airlines and pet transporters must have these documents before accepting your pet.
  • Step 2:
Call the airline before you order tickets to check their pet policies. Most airlines accept small pets as carry on baggage, but some don't. Contact pet transport services in advance to make an appointment and get guidelines on how they operate.
  • Step 3:
Gather essentials for your pet's trip. A pet carrier, food for the trip, water, bedding, favorite toys and medications should be on the list for every pet.
  • Step 4:
Bring your small pet to the airport with you, arriving a few hours ahead of time. If using a transport service, drop your pet off at the transport facility before the scheduled time to leave. Arriving early allows you time to go over last minute details of the trip.
  • Step 5:
Feed your pet at least 2 hours before boarding the plane or transporting them. Their stomachs will have digested the food already, allowing a smaller chance of them getting sick from the motions of the place or vehicle.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always use a pet carrier or crate to transport your pet. Using bags or luggage not intended for pets can be dangerous and possibly fatal to your pet.
