Temperature Stress

Step 1:
Pugs cannot tolerate extreme weather conditions. Pugs need to live primarily indoors with their families when the weather is either excessively hot or cold. They are susceptible to respiratory illnesses.

Breathing Difficulties

Step 1:
Their short snouts make breathing somewhat difficult for the pug. They are also more likely than other breeds to get allergies.

Eyes

Step 1:
Pugs are more susceptible to inflammation of the cornea than some other breeds. Their prominent eyes are prone to weeping.

Encephalitis

Step 1:
Adolescent pug dogs are prone to PDE, or pug dog encephalitis. The cause is unknown.

Breeding Difficulties

Step 1:
Pugs have difficulties giving birth naturally due to small hips of the adult and large heads of the pups. Cesarean births are very common for pug puppies.
