Signs of Kidney or Liver Disease in Dogs

Water Intake

  • Step 1:
    Dogs suffering from liver disease or kidney disease often display an increase in water consumption, also known as polydipsia.

Urination

  • Step 1:
    With an increase in water intake, there may also be an increase in urination. This applies to both canine diseases.

Appetite

  • Step 1:
    A poor appetite or a lack of appetite are both signs of either canine liver disease or kidney disease.

Weight Loss

  • Step 1:
    In canines, weight loss can be a symptom of kidney or liver diseases.

Lethargy

  • Step 1:
    As expected, dogs suffering from a poor appetite and weight loss will also suffer from changes in behavior, such as becoming more lethargic.

Vomiting

  • Step 1:
    As with many canine diseases, vomiting can be a sign of either liver or kidney disease.
